01 Apr 2021

€10,000 in Community Funding has been presented to groups near Knockastanna Wind Farm close to the Limerick and Tipperary border. The 2020 awards brings our overall company contribution in the region to €156,881 since 2010.

A total of six local groups benefited from the recent allocations of €10,525, including schools, sports clubs and community organisations. SSE Airtricity operates the Community Fund programme on behalf of SSE Renewables.

Cappawhite National School will be putting this year’s funding towards purchasing a second-hand prefab to enable the school to continue with breakfast club and after school facilities.

Principal, Alice Flynn said: “SSE Airtricity community funding will enable us to continue to provide this much needed service. Cappawhite National School is a DEIS school and has many families who benefit from the support of this breakfast club and, after school we can assist parents in childcare.  Pupils also get much-needed assistance with homework and are provided with a breakfast before school and meal after school.”

Other Covid 19 projects are being supported at Rearcross National School, Kilcommon Community Council and Cullen- Latten AFC, along with a water conservation system at Doon Community Centre and planting by Curreeny Community Council for the village.

Anne Reynolds, SSE Airtricity Community Development Officer, said: “We’re very proud to be making a difference in the local area particularly this difficult time for communities. This year’s fund has been repurposed to assist in the relief measures around Covid-19.  It is hoped this fund can provide some support with the ongoing pressures in the community created by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
