The Strathy North wind farm is located in a commercial forestry plantation called Strathy Forest, approximately 7km from Strathy Village in north Sutherland, Scotland.

Construction began in 2013 and the wind farm became operational in mid 2015.  Highland contractors RJ McLeod led the civils work and were featured in BBC4's 'Power to the People' programme.

Strathy North is 100% owned and operated by SSE Renewables.

In November 2021, we received planning consent to build a 35 turbine wind farm called Strathy South, to the south of Strathy North.  You can find out more by clicking here.

Strathy North Community Fund

Through our Strathy North wind farm we make around £225,000 per year available for community and charitable projects. Between 2014 and 2039 we expect to invest £4.5million in local projects.

Additional funding is committed to the regional Sustainable Development Fund. This fund opens every two years and supports transformational projects across the Highland local authority area.
