Muskham is a proposed solar farm with capacity up to 49.9MW. It is located next to our Knapthorpe solar site. The site is currently agricultural land to the south of the village of Knapthorpe, Nottinghamshire.

We acquired the rights to both this site and Knapthorpe in January 2023.

This site, if constructed, is expected to generate enough clean, renewable power for around 17,700 average homes*.

Project history and progress

As the site is below 50MW our planning application is being considered by the local planning authority which is Newark and Sherwood District Council, enabling local people to share their views and opinions.

We have lodged a planning appeal on this site, following the refusal of full planning permission by Newark and Sherwood District Council on 17th November 2023 for:

Construction of a solar farm, access and all associated works, equipment and necessary infrastructure" (Application Reference: 22/00976/FULM).

Further details about the original planning application and the appeal are available on the Council’s Planning Portal https://publicaccess.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/online-applications/.

The Appellants have invited the Inspector to determine the Appeal on the basis of an Amended Proposed Landscape and Ecological Masterplan. The proposed changes are as follows:

  • Amendment A – Removing panels from the field next to Wheaten House that adjoins the eastern boundary of the appeal site, representing a minor internal layout to location of panels within the Appeal site.
  • Amendment B – Refinements of the positioning of the proposals in respect of Footpath 2, increasing the separation buffer from the proposed development to this residential receptor.

The amended plans can be viewed on the Newark and Sherwood District Council website using the reference 22/00976/FULM. The Amended Proposed Landscape and Ecological Masterplan (P21-1380.003 Rev J) can also be viewed below:

Supply Calculation

* To calculate the number of homes this scheme can supply energy to, we look at the first year of generation and use OFGEMS published average household consumption figures for average household consumption.
