Knapthorpe is a proposed solar farm with capacity up to 49.9MW. It is located next to our Muskham solar site. The site is currently agricultural land to the south of the village of Knapthorpe, Nottinghamshire.

We acquired the rights to both this site and Muskham in January 2023.

This site, if constructed, is expected to generate enough clean, renewable power for around 18,700 average homes*.

Project history and progress

As the proposed project is below 50MW our planning application is being considered by the local planning authority which is the District Council, enabling local people to share their views and opinions.

We have lodged a planning appeal on this site, following the refusal of full planning permission by Newark and Sherwood District Council on 17th November 2023 for:

Construction of a solar farm, access and all associated works, equipment and necessary infrastructure" (Application Reference: 22/00975/FULM).

Further details about the original planning application and the appeal are available on the Council’s Planning Portal https://publicaccess.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/online-applications/.

We have invited the Inspector to determine the Appeal on the basis of an Amended Scheme Site Layout and Landscape Strategy. The proposed changes are as follows:

  • Amendment A – The red line boundary now includes visibility splays at the vehicular access point, meaning the site area is now 74.4 hectares.
  • Amendment B – Removal of panels from within a section of the adjoining field in a cone shape on the eastern side of the public highway, northeast of Orchard House Farm.

The amended plans can be viewed on the Newark and Sherwood District Council website [https://publicaccess.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/online-applications] using the reference 22/00975/FULM.

The Amended Proposed Landscape and Ecological Masterplan (P21-1381_03 Rev L) can also be viewed and downloaded below:

Supply Calculation

* To calculate the number of homes this scheme can supply energy to, we look at the first year of generation and use OFGEMS published average household consumption figures for average household consumption.
