Corneen Wind Farm is located near Ballyconnell in County Cavan.

The two turbine, three MW wind farm on the Slieve Rushen mountain entered commercial operation in 2001, becoming SSE Renewables’ second wind farm to be opened in Ireland.

Corneen wind farm can power almost 2,000 homes^ and help abate almost 2,500 tonnes of harmful carbon dioxide* per annum.

The Corneen Community Fund launched in 2002. So far around €110,000 has been presented to groups around the wind farm.

The Corneen Community Fund

We make around €6,000 per year available for local projects promoting energy efficiency and social sustainability through our Corneen Community Fund programme.

In 2023, due to the increasing level of demand for this Community Fund, SSE Renewables has taken the decision to start awarding funding from the Corneen Community Fund every two years rather than every year to maximise funding opportunities. The new biannual fund for 2023 and 2024 was circ. €10,000.
