SSE Renewables’ first solar project located at Littleton Pastures near Evesham, Worcestershire. The 31MW solar farm will connect to a substation currently under construction on Buckle Street near Honeybourne.

The rights to develop the solar farm were purchased by SSE Renewables from a third party in December 2021. Construction began the start of 2024 and the project is being delivered by our project partners, Grupotec. We expect construction to be completed by the end of 2024.

Once completed, the solar farm will generate enough electricity to power around 10,000 homes per annum*.

Project progress

We are taking measures to protect and enhance the biodiversity at the site by;

  • Maintaining all existing internal hedgerows
  • Seeding of wildflower margins along hedgerows
  • New tree and hedgerow planting to fill the boundary gap, with a mix of tree and hedgerow species to create an informal hedge. Using locally found species and with a mix of fast-growing screening species and longer-term hedgerow species.
  • Leaving a buffer zone around the 3 ponds near the site.
  • Nearby wildflower grassland to enhance the ponds for great crested newts.
  • Creation of log piles near to the ponds to provide terrestrial hibernacula and introduction of native aquatic plants to the ponds to increase cover.
  • We are also currently investigating whether it is safe to allow local sheep to graze on the site once we are operational.
