SSE Renewables has opened applications for the Richfield Community Benefit Fund, inviting local groups to apply for funding that supports impactful, community-driven change. Applications can be submitted online from Monday 18 August to Friday 19 September.

The Richfield Wind Farm Community Fund aims to share the value of renewable energy with the local community. This bi-annual round of funding covers the years 2025 and 2026, with a total of €40,000 available.

The fund is open to community-based initiatives located within a 20km radius of the wind farm, with priority given to projects within 5km. Initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, enhance healthy and safety standards, or foster community development are encouraged to apply.

Since its launch in 2007, the Richfield Community Fund has awarded over €415,000 to local groups, including schools, sports clubs, and community centres. For the 2023-2024 period, €33,000 was distributed to 14 initiatives, including Wexford Sub Aqua Club, which received funding for membership training, as well as costs of essential repairs to the club’s boat and transport trailer.

Highlighting the impact the Richfield Community Fund, Ivan Donoghue, Diving Officer for Wexford Sub Aqua Club, said:

"For many years SSE Renewables has been a real friend to clubs and organisations operating near Richfield Wind Farm. Their fund enables clubs and groups to carry out environmental projects, or capital improvements which they wouldn't normally be able to afford. Wexford Sub Aqua Club are very thankful to SSE Renewable for their support over the years"

Pádraig Fitzgerald, SSE Renewables Community Investment Manager, said:

“At SSE Renewables, we’re proud to support the communities around our wind farms. The Richfield Community Fund is about empowering local groups to lead positive change - whether that’s through sustainability projects, safety improvements, or initiatives that bring people together. We encourage all eligible community groups to apply and help us make a lasting impact in the area.”
