Funding available to first-year third level college students from Tyrone, Derry-Londonderry, Fermanagh and Donegal
SSE Renewables has today announced the opening of its SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund. The announcement comes one week after SSE Renewables celebrated ten years of the fund with the launch of its latest Northern Ireland Community Investment Review.
The wind-powered fund provides critical financial support for students who are studying a range of STEM subjects. It is backed by the SSE Renewables Regional Fund for Slieve Kirk Wind Park and Tievenameenta Wind Farm, owned and operated by SSE Renewables, as well as the Greencoat Renewables-owned Slieve Divena II Wind Farm.
As in previous years, the SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund is open to students from counties Tyrone, Derry-Londonderry, Fermanagh and Donegal, with successful applicants in receipt of funding support for 50% of their third level education fees. Applications are being accepted from 23 September – 25 October.
SSE has invested £1.5 million over ten years to provide scholarship funding from its wind farms to students attending Third Level education in Northern Ireland. The leading renewable energy developer has to date funded scholarships for 452 scholars undertaking third level education at Ulster University, South West College and North West Regional College. Last year alone, 51 scholarships were awarded.
"We are thrilled to once again open the SSE Renewables Scholarship Fund. Over the past decade, we’ve had the privilege of supporting more than 450 students as they embark on their educational journeys. This scholarship significantly eases financial burdens by covering 50% of tuition fees, allowing students to focus on their studies and future careers. Each year, interest in the fund continues to grow, and it’s clear that the impact has been overwhelmingly positive. Through our partnerships with Ulster University, South West College, and North West Regional College, we’re preparing the next generation to thrive in the workforce and contribute to tackling the climate crisis. We strongly encourage all eligible students to apply."
