Funding available to students living near Galway Wind Park in Connemara

Galway Wind Park co-owners, SSE Renewables and Greencoat Renewables, have today announced the opening of the 2024 Galway Wind Park Scholarship Fund.

The wind-powered fund provides critical financial support for students across various fields of study. Now in its sixth year, it rewards approximately €50,000 annually and is available to full and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students living within 15km of Galway Wind Park in Connemara.

Successful applicants will receive 50% grant support towards their annual fees, for up to three years. Applications are being accepted from 23 September - 25th October.

Last year, 17 scholarships were awarded, and to date, 99 students have received support from the fund as they embark on their college educational journey.

"SSE Renewables is proud to continue our partnership with Greencoat Renewables for the sixth year, empowering local students to pursue their dreams of higher education. This scholarship programme is more than just financial support; it's an investment in the future leaders of our community. We encourage all eligible students within 15km of Galway Wind Park to seize this opportunity and take the next step in their educational journey."

By investing in the education of future generations, we are not only empowering individuals but also helping to build a brighter, more sustainable future for our community."

The scholarship programme supports students attending Atlantic Technological University (ATU) and The University of Galway, as well as other third-level educational institutions across the island of Ireland.  It provides third-level education opportunities for local students to gain qualifications and build strong careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) subjects and in the areas of energy efficiency, sustainability, environment, health, safety and social skills.

Student selection for the Scholarship is administered by three independent panels from the University of Galway, Atlantic Technological University and FORUM Connemara CLG, a local development company whose main aim is the economic and social development of the Connemara region.

The deadline for completed applications to be submitted to a student’s chosen education institution for the 2024 Scholarship is Friday, 25th October 2024.
