Viking Energy Wind Farm makes £2,000 donation to Shetland Heart Screening

31 Jan 2023

Viking Energy Wind Farm has made a £2,000 donation to Shetland Heart Screening, a charity that screens 14 to 35-year-olds for undiagnosed cardiac conditions.

The charity was set up after the sudden cardiac arrest of John “PJ” Pirie who passed away the week before Christmas in 2017 at the age of 29. John left behind wife Siobhan and two children.

Shetland Heart Screening was an idea by Siobhan to do something positive in her husband’s memory and potentially prevent a similar tragedy happening to another family.

The £2,000 donation made by Viking Wind Farm will help contribute towards the groups next Heart Screening Event in June.

"A huge thank you to SSE Renewables and Viking Energy Wind Farm for their extremely kind donation of £2,000 which will go towards our next Heart Screening Event. We are so very grateful for every single penny, which will allow us to continue to offer free heart screen-ings to Shetlanders between the age of 14 and 35."

The screenings take the form of a non-invasive ECG Test which is then checked by a cardiologist at the event. Due to such high demand for screening (over 200 people on last year’s waiting list) the charity is delighted to announce another event will be taking place on the 3rd and 4th June 2023.
