Local organisations in Angus benefit from Seagreen Community Benefit Fund

28 Jun 2022

Organisations from across Angus are benefiting from a £1.8m community benefit fund set up in the name of Seagreen – Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, currently under construction 27km off the coast of the county.

Colleagues from SSE Renewables – the developer of the wind farm in partnership with TotalEnergies, and administrator of the fund recently met with representatives of organisations who have benefited from the fund so far. They also made a visit to the Arbroath Cliffs to highlight the difference that the fund is making.

"The Seagreen Community benefit fund was set up to help those communities which were impacted by the construction of Seagreen.

We want the fund to help leave a legacy for these communities and realise local people’s ambitions to support projects and organisations in their areas."

Arbroath Cliff Trail is one of the causes which has benefited from the fund so far. Cameron Smith from the organisation said:

“Arbroath Cliff trail is a four mile walk from Arbroath to the fishing village of Auchmithie. The picturesque walk is very popular with locals and visitors alike and there are lots of interesting things to see."

“The money we received from the Seagreen Community Benefit Fund is being used to fund a year’s worth of information flyers, two weatherproof boxes to hold the flyers and also towards the upkeep and upgrade of our website.”
