27 May 2022

SSE Renewables sponsors weekend long event

The Loch Ness Challenge took place this past weekend, with participants battling it out across three days of endurance events which included three marathons, an ultra-marathon and a cycle event.

Taking place from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd May 2022, the Loch Ness Challenge is Scotland’s newest long-distance trail event, created by Visit Inverness Loch Ness (VILN) and sponsored by SSE Renewables.

Following the Loch Ness 360° trail, the event consists of the Loch Ness Marathon Challenge, Loch Ness Ultra Marathon Challenge and Loch Ness Bike Challenge.

Commenting on the event, Michael Golding, CEO of Visit Inverness Loch Ness, said:

“What a fantastic weekend at Loch Ness! Well done to everyone who took part in the challenges - they certainly weren’t for the faint-hearted.

“Following two years of delays, it was a proud moment seeing locals and visitors cheering on participants as they took to the beautiful Loch Ness 360°. A huge thank you must go to all our sponsors and partners, especially SSE Renewables, and our amazing volunteers for making this event possible. I already can’t wait for the Loch Ness Challenge 2023!”

Craig Cunningham, project manager of the Bhlaraidh Extension and Cloiche Wind Farm developments at SSE Renewables, said:

“We are really proud to have been part of such a brilliant event, especially as it aims to support the communities in which we operate some of our wind farms and hydro power stations.

“It was a real honour for me to join with so many other members of the SSE Renewables team to take part in this event, and it’s also been great that so many of our team volunteered to support the first Loch Ness Challenge. A massive congratulations to you all!”
