The Seagreen 1A project has become a sponsor of the 3 Harbours Arts Festival for 2021 as it looks to build on its community partnerships in the local area.
The 3 Harbours Arts Festival, which spans across the three towns of Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton in East Lothian, is a virtual festival this year, hosting a series of online events.
The festival which is well underway and runs until 11 July 2021, offers a variety of exhibitions, workshops, talks, heritage and children’s events and performances and is run by volunteers.
Fiona Campbell of Seagreen 1A said: “It is a welcome opportunity for us to be able to support the 3 Harbours Arts Festival. The festival is run by volunteers and helps promote local artists and has a number of events for young people. We hope to build a long term relationship with the festival and other local events.
“For us it is important to create a lasting legacy where we look to develop, build and operate our projects. Seagreen is Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm and the proposals will help Scotland reach our net-zero carbon future, with our Seagreen 1A proposals to connect 36 of the consented offshore turbines to the grid at Cockenzie.”
Seagreen is a consented offshore wind farm development being brought forward by SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies. The Seagreen project, 27km off the Angus coastline and 66km off the East Lothian coastline, will be able to generate 1.5GW from 150 wind turbines. The amount of carbon dioxide it will remove is similar to removing almost a third of all of Scotland's annual car emissions.
114 of the 150 consented turbines have a grid connection into Tealing, Angus, and construction on this grid connection started in 2020. As there is restricted additional grid capacity available at Tealing, National Grid provided a 360MW connection offer at the ScottishPower substation, adjacent to the former Cockenzie Power station site in East Lothian, in order to connect the remaining 36 turbines.
The Seagreen 1A project comprises the infrastructure to connect the remaining 36 offshore turbines to the grid and consist of an offshore cable corridor from the offshore wind farm to Cockenzie and proposals for landfall, the onshore cable corridor and the onshore substation.
