Over 150 people attended a Community Open Day on Saturday 19 August to celebrate the opening of SSE’s new Tievenameenta Wind Farm in Killeter, Co. Tyrone.
Community members joined SSE at Aghyaran St. Davog’s GAC for a fun-filled day, with lots of family activities. The event included a barbecue, a bouncy castle, balloon modelling, and arts and crafts, as well as tours of the new wind farm.
Shuttle buses brought guests to Tievenameenta Wind Farm throughout the day, where they learnt all about the power of wind energy. The younger guests even got the chance to put their hand prints on the wind turbines.
Vicky Boden from SSE, said: “It was a great day, with lots of fun had by all. We were delighted to celebrate the opening of our new Tievenameenta Wind Farm with members of the local community. We were very grateful for the cooperation and support of local residents during the construction period, which helped us get the wind farm finished ahead of schedule.
“At SSE, we’re proud to make a positive difference for the communities close to our wind farms. We’re now looking forward to opening our Tievenameenta Wind Farm Community Fund next year, which will make contributions to local groups and projects, as well as providing funding for students towards their educational costs.”
SSE is Northern Ireland’s largest renewable energy provider, generating enough wind energy to power roughly 100,000 homes. At 34.5MW, Tievenameenta Wind Farm is capable of powering up to 30,000 homes with clean, green energy.
