The project team has reached another major milestone in the construction of our Slieve Divena II Wind Farm in Co. Tyrone, with the erection of the first turbine. Several others are also nearing full installation.
The 18.8MW site near Ballygawley is due to be connected to the grid this month, with a first export expected soon afterwards.
When completed this spring, the wind farm will consist of eight Enercon E-92 turbines, generating enough green energy to power around 16,500 homes. The renewable energy produced at Slieve Divena II will help to offset approximately 24,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from fossil fuel generation every year.
SSE's Project Manager for Slieve Divena II, Pat Tierney, said:
“The erection of the first turbine is a big milestone for the project, and we’re delighted to reach this point within our timescale targets. Construction is progressing smoothly, and most importantly safely, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the entire team on site. We’re also extremely grateful to the local community for their ongoing cooperation and support.
“We’re now looking forward to getting the rest of the turbines up and running safely, as well as the site's first export to the grid. I’d like to thank everyone involved with the project for their continued commitment as we work to bring the wind farm to its successful completion."
