SSE has appointed Siemens Wind Power and Renewables to install and commission 22 of its D3 direct drive wind turbines for phase 1 of Galway Wind Park. The appointment also includes a five-year service contract.
The direct drive technology of the Siemens wind turbines assures high reliability and maintainability. The site for Galway Wind Park has medium to high wind speeds, so Siemens will install their SWT-3.0-101 models, which are designed to offer solid performance even under extreme wind conditions. All Siemens direct drive wind turbines feature a PMG generator for a high energy yield with high efficiency at low operational costs.
“We are proud to be selected to provide both the turbines and long-term service for phase 1 of Galway Wind Park”, said Thomas Richterich, CEO Onshore, Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division. “With our proven and diverse portfolio of technology, we are able to offer the best choice for a wide range of onshore projects.”
When completed, SSE’s Galway Wind Park is expected to produce enough green energy to power around 84,000 homes, which is equivalent to almost 90% of the homes in County Galway.
