SSER Ossian Article 22 Oct 2025

Additional Environmental Information report available online and in libraries

Members of the public, statutory consultees and the wider stakeholder community are being given the opportunity to consider additional environmental information that has been submitted by Ossian Offshore Wind Farm.

The supplementary details are in support of the original Array consent application that was made in June 2024 to Scottish Ministers.

Ossian is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Marubeni, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). It is one of the largest lease areas of the ScotWind projects, occupying 858km2 of seabed 84km off the east coast of Scotland.

If approved for delivery, the offshore wind farm project would be one of the largest floating offshore wind projects in the world with an installed renewable energy capacity of up to 3.6GW, enough to be capable of powering up to six million homes annually* when completed.

The project has consulted widely including with regulatory and industry bodies across nature conservation, fisheries, aviation and shipping and navigation, to ensure the application is reflective of their views.

Through this process, key consultees have requested additional environmental information covering ornithology and physical processes.

Rich Morris, Ossian’s Development Lead, said:

“The Ossian Array consent application was submitted to Scottish Ministers last summer.

“We've continued to engage with stakeholders following receipt of the consultation responses and are providing supplementary information.

“An Additional Environmental Information report has been submitted. The upcoming consultation is another important milestone for the project. We hope this will support the Marine Directorate in making its determination.”

The opportunity to review the latest version of the document begins 21 October 2025 and lasts for six weeks, until 2 December 2025.

Delivery of the project will be subject to securing planning consent, route to market and a final investment decision by the joint venture partners.

The scope of this application covers the generating assets and transmission platforms within the offshore array, with the offshore export cables and onshore infrastructure being progressed under separate consenting processes.

* Quoted 6 million homes powered per annum (claim based on latest Typical Domestic Consumption Values (TDCV) at medium consumption, 2,700kWh per household; Ofgem, May 2023), typical 50% offshore wind load factor, and installed capacity of 3.6GW. Quoted 7.5 million tCO2e reductions per annum based on expected annual output against average 440 tCO2e per GWh for all non-renewable fuels in 2024 (Digest of UK Energy Statistics (DUKES), August 2021.
