SSE seeks community views on Tangy Repower Wind Farm

** Public consultations in South Kintyre at the end of August will gather feedback on amended plans for consented repowering project***

SSE is hosting local public consultation events on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 August to seek views on redesigns for its consented Tangy Repower Wind Farm in South Kintyre. The events will take place at locations in Campbeltown, Machrihanish and Tayinloan.

Opened in 2003, Tangy Wind Farm is located nearly six miles northwest of Campbeltown. Its 22 turbines currently provide 18.7MW of installed renewable energy capacity but are coming to the end of their operational life. 

In 2019, SSE Renewables was granted consent by Scottish Ministers to repower the existing wind farm. This consent allows for the operational life of Tangy to be extended, increasing its generation output while reducing the number of turbines on site from 22 to 16.

Now, under new redesigns being proposed and consulted upon by SSE Renewables, installed electricity generating capacity at Tangy Repower Wind Farm would increase to up to 96MW. This would be achieved largely through a change in tip heights for each of the consented 16 turbines to up to 200m.

“Our new proposals will maximise Tangy’s potential to provide vital homegrown clean energy. So, we’re inviting any interested parties and local community members to attend our consultations and have their say.”

“The repowering was previously consented in 2019. After a feasibility study we now want views on our redesigned proposals to inform submission of a Section 36C Variation application to the Scottish Government.” 

The project team for Tangy Repower Wind Farm will be available at the consultation events to share information on the new proposals and answer any questions.
